"Field of Grain" 24" x 36" acrylic on aluminum with bolts

I am a Colorado artist who uses non-traditional mediums to express my contemporary style. The various metals such as stainless steel and aluminum, along with strong architecture and rich colors are used in concert to attempt to evoke an emotional reaction in the viewer. I grew up practicing the arts as a pianist. I attended college to study business where I went on to secure a professional business career. At the age of 31 while still working full time, I returned to the arts and this time to painting. I currently am represented by Weyrich Gallery in Albuquerque, New Mexico and have shown my contemporary metals at Alan Day Contemporary Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Artwork Network Gallery in the arts district in Denver, Colorado. I also participate in numerous shows throughout the country every year, and my work can be found in public and private collections throughout the United States. Painting is my key to the secret “crack in the universe” where creativity lives and flows. I use my hands to create pieces that silence the mind and open the senses. Art has to be accessible to everyone, and I strive to make that a reality. From the beginning, the process of transforming sheets of metal into works of art has struck me as magical. My father was a Colorado farmer and a mechanic – so I was fascinated with metals and hardware. I am a Colorado native and an avid hiker which is where I draw my inspiration. There is no place like the mountains and no greater beauty than the forests. I have also been strongly influenced by the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright once said about one of his home designs -“I want you to live with it and not just look at it.” And, over the years, combining my environment and influences with the magical process of painting, it has led me home, and led me from hobby to profession. Painting fills me with a sense of accomplishment and peace, and has proven a most playful vehicle for translating inner vision to outer reality. I paint with visions of nature, colors and textures to tell a sensory story. While I work deliberately, consciously employing both traditional and innovative techniques, my hands are the project manager. I believe we all still want and need to play. My work provides a safe architectural structure surrounding a playground of chaos that when experienced with eyes and hands, brings the child out in all of us.
